The Back Story:

All time LV Sportsman winner “Alligator” Art Collins scores a W early in the Valley Sportsman days.  Art had long been a competitor at the high banks before this picture was taken.  The Chatham NY star began his career back when the Street Stock division started up in the late 70’s.  Collins earned the nickname “Alligator” during his rookie 320 modified campaign, when Uncle Art fashioned the moniker on him because of his brightly colored green car.  That same rookie campaign saw Art pull off his first, possibly biggest, win of his career when he won the 50 lap Race of Kings when he passed leader Jeff Hoetzler, after the driver got stuck in lapped traffic late in the event.
