The Back Story:

Top Photo: A Longtime Valley fixture, Lenox MA resident Danny Armstrong collects some hardware aboard this sharp coupe.

Michael Raspuzzi shares with us this great story about the man in the #4 and how the car his father helped tune up scored his first victory ever:

This was Danny Armstrong’s his first sportsman victory.  It was in the late 1970s.  Danny was running second to Donnie Ackner in this race until the final lap.  As both drivers entered turn 3, it was clear that Danny was going to finish second.  However, something happened to Donnie’s car and he wound up drifting very high and close to the wall between turns 3 and 4.  Because he had to slow down significantly, Danny raced to the inside, got ahead of Donnie and went to the finish line ahead of him.  MR

I also remember this night, and if my failing memory serves me correctly, Ackners power steering box exploded, causing minor burns to Donnie’s legs, hence the reason for the abrupt slowdown.  Also of note,  this very possibly could have been the last coupe to ever win a feature at Lebanon Valley Speedway.

Second Photo: Just a fantastic looking coupe of the strong running sportsman driver Danny Armstrong.

Third Photo: With some help from Ernie Sutton, the owner of Southern States Used Cars in South Lee, MA (many may be more familiar with him owning the Richard Shoppe run #63) Danny put this Modified together for the 1985 season.
