The Back Story:

Top: Though I grew up watching Tommy Athanas run, I personally really don’t know too much about him.  All I can say, as a kid growing up, I liked his cars because it had what looked like a hybrid cross breed of the Road Runner and the “Thrush” shifter mascot painted on the side of the car….and that was way cool.

Second: Tommy ran this straight 6 cylinder against all the V-8 small blocks back in the day.  As LVC visitor Bert Poland mentioned, Athanas is running either this car, or one very similar to on the northeast vintage racing series nowadays.

Third: Longtime LV chauffer Tommy Athanas and Johnny Holland out of CT slide up the banks in search of the evening’s sportsman class win.  Tommy competes in the vintage racing circuit with his old #56 coach while John owns and operates New England Fuels and is a co-owner of the potent #98 Troyer Modified piloted by Jimmy Phelps.
